From May 1st - September 30th, dogs are allowed on this beach but restrictions apply. You're limited from the skate-park to the lighthouse which is still quite a big stretch of beach.
This is a very popular beach. It's rare you go to this beach and not see anyone, unless you're going later in the evenings and/or early mornings. It's a great place to take your dogs to socialise and meet friends. I would check the tide times before visiting this beach as when the tide is high, the beach is very limited. When the tide is low, you'll have an amazing beach with loads of space to play.
There is a promenade which runs all along this beach so on days when the tide is high, you're still able to walk them here but they must be on leads. Many people walk with their dogs off the lead and no one ever really says anything but I guess it's whether you want to risk a fine. When the dark winter nights hit, this section is always lit which lights up the beach a little.
On the promenade you have the rendezvous cafe which is dog friendly, or you can keep walking to Spanish City where you'll find more little cafes and places to pit stop for food, such as The Crab and Waltzer, Deleval Ices, Di-Meo's and a few Fish&Chips shops.
Parking Information
There are plenty of car parks around the front of Whitley Bay but our go to is the Brierdene Car Park. There are always plenty of spaces and you're right on the sea front. It leads you right to in the middle of the dog friendly section so you can either go left to St Mary's Lighthouse or right towards Spanish City (Once you reach the skatepark, the dogs must come off the beach)
This is a free car park.
