Howick Beach is a little coastal gem situated north east of Alnwick and south of Craster. This small coastal location has a number of small, intimate beaches and is accompanied by cliffs, caves and coves.
We visited this place a few weeks ago and the girls loved it. My partner even went as far as saying that it is her favourite Northumberland location.
As you follow the track which exits the car park towards the coastline you pass a number of beaches/bays. Due to the rocky nature of the first beach there were a lot of water sports taking place. Groups were jumping off cliffs and swimming under and through caves. There were also a lot of people rock pooling.
On the rocks you will see some inscriptions dating back to the early 1900s. A local man told us there was also a man made swimming pool made out of the rocks which was used for recreational purposes, unfortunately the tide was in when we visited so you were unable to see it.
As the first beach was busy, we decided to keep on walking onto the next bay. The beach was small and only 200 yards in length, however, there was only ourselves and one other family at this location. This meant that the girls could enjoy the run of the beach.
There is a hiking trail that runs alongside the beaches that you can follow to Longhoughton Beach and and continue along to Boulmer. It may have been a little too much for our Willow as she's still quite young, but it seemed quite a popular trail.
Along side the path is a cow's field and if you have a small dog like ours, they could easily gain access to it like our little one did, therefor I would definitely recommend keeping your dogs on the lead until you get onto the beach.
We thoroughly enjoyed this little hidden gem and the girls had a great time. In quieter months you would more than likely be able to have the whole beach to yourselves.
This is an all year round dog friendly beach.
Parking Information
There is a little car park which holds about 20-25 cars which is free to park. We also noticed people were parking on the grass verges. We got here about 1pm and we didn't struggle to get parked. I can't imagine it getting massively busy as it's quite a quiet beach.
Postcode we used to get here was. This will take you to a place called The Bathing House but you'll see the car park before you see this. If you click the postcode link before, you'll see where the car park is.
