This is a walk which George had done briefly as a puppy but didn't really have chance to explore. It is only 5 minutes away from us, but for some reason we had not returned, so we used our Sunday afternoon to go and visit again!
We parked on the road outside the Melton Constable Pub and headed down the steps to the left of the pub, this takes you down to the mouth of the dene where a few boats are moored. For this walk, you simply follow the footpaths past the house, it's hard to go wrong. We walked for about an hour and a half in total, but the good thing about this walk is that you can make it as short or as long as you like!
We followed the signs for the Heritage Path, and along the way there is plenty of places for the dogs to explore, whether it be trees to climb or water to run through. The path runs parallel to the river, so be aware, your dog WILL get muddy! Dogs can be off the lead for the whole walk, however about 1km in, you will cross a quiet road. Throughout the walk, there are a couple of stiles to pass over, this is to keep sections of the walk free of cyclists.
The pathways along the walk are well built, however due to rain and a lot of use they can get quite muddy so would highly recommend walking boots. After heading past a pond, crossing a small bridge and finding a rope swing, we reached a small but impressive waterfall. We decided to use this as our turning point, but if you carry on further, you reach Holywell village.
Overall, we would highly recommend this walk as it can be made different lengths and even coupled with a trip to Seaton Sluice Beach! After the walk, Harbour View Fish and Chip restaurant offers a perfect pit stop, it does the best fish and chips in the North East in my opinion.
