Thank you to our friend, Oscar, for making us aware of this lovely place!
Havannah Nature reserve is based on the former Hazlerigg Colliery. There are countless tracks to walk, some taking you into the woodland areas and some taking you out into open fields.
We have only been here a couple of times, but the dogs love it. There is tracks to follow or if you like to go off track there is plenty of woodland to explore! There trees provide a lot of ground for your dogs to run around and zig-zag in and out and burn off some much needed energy. You could easily spend a couple of hours here.
Similar to Cramlington Nature Reserve, due to it's size, you can walk around and pretty much not bump into anyone if your dog(s) are nervous around other dogs and/or people. There is also numerous benches dotted around if a rest is required!
The Lake in the middle sometimes has some Swans swimming around and they're not afraid to stick up for themselves. If your dog thinks they can take on the world(like most dogs), it might be worth keeping an eye on them when near the lake. That's if you find the lake...
With it being a Nature Reserve, you may also be lucky to see some of the animals that are situated here. The first time we went, we seen a little herd of Deer running through the bushes which was great to see!
Parking Information
There are two car parks for Havannah Nature Reserve. Both situated on Coach Lane in Hazlerigg. The car parks themselves don't have postcodes but the nearest postcode would be NE13 7AP. If you click the postcode it will give you a better understanding of where to park. They're both on the same road so if you can't get parked in the first one, keep driving along the road and try the next one. We have never had any issues getting parked here.
Car Park is free.
