Blyth/Seaton Sluice Beach

Blyth/Seaton Sluice beach is Georges local walk, it is often an underrated beach in the North East! Stretching from the port in Blyth, down to Seaton Sluice harbour, it provides a medium length walk with plenty of different aspects to explore! At low tide, the beach stretches out a good distance and provides a lot of space for our furry friends to run around.

Starting at the Blyth end, there is a pier which stretches out to sea which can be walked on, and is often full of people fishing! As you head towards Sluice, you will pass the colourful and iconic Blyth Beach huts. These can be rented in the summer and are always popular on the warm days! As you pass the huts, you will hop the wooden groynes (structures put in place to stop the sand blowing all the way down the beach or longshore drift as its geographically known). After you have passed the groynes, it is then endless sand all the way up to Seaton Sluice where the beach stops at the very picturesque Seaton Sluice Harbour. If you dont fancy getting sandy, there is a coastal path which runs parallel to the beach and covers the same distance!

Once you have finished your walk, there are amazing food options at Blyth and Seaton Sluice. Blyth has Coastline Ciccarelli which has a Fish and Chip restaurant and takeaway (restaurant is not dog friendly but there is outside seating), it also houses quite possibly the best ice cream shop in Northumberland, be sure to visit here. Seaton Sluice is home to one of the greatest Fish and Chip takeaways in the UK, Harbour View. Like Coastline, the restaurant is not dog friendly but you can sit around the harbour opposite.

Dog are not permitted from May - Sep

The middle section of the beach is not accessible for dogs as this can get very busy on hot days, however there is still plenty of beach to be explored around this. If you start at the Seaton Sluice car park, you can walk all the way along to Blyth before the non-dog friendly section.

Parking Information

The Mermaid Car Park in Blyth is easily accessible but on busy days, it can sometimes get quite full. There are two other car parks, one is what we call the 'Middlle car park' which is in the middle of Blyth and Sluice and the other is the car park in Seaton Sluice. All addresses can be found below.
