It was wet, windy and cold for 3/4 of the walk but that didnt stop us enjoying it! This was quite easily one of our favourite routes.
The route we took was about 8 miles in total and took you round and above Thrunton woods. Im not going to talk to heavily about directions as we followed a fantastic, in depth route from the website below.
This walk takes you up onto the surrounding crags and gives you breath taking views over Thrunton woods, check out the photos below or on one of our Instagrams. It provides some challenging aspects such as boggy land and a few steep climbs, but the dogs didnt struggle at all (humans did a little bit but it added to the fun!). At the top of the climb there is some interesting rock formations to wander around, we even stopped for snacks in a small circular shelter made out of rocks, it provided some rest from the relentless wind!
When you eventually make it down from the crags and back into the forest towards the car park, you get to see the true size of the trees, they tower above you and seem to go on forever. This hike provides some great scenery at every point.
Ive decided not to ramble on too much about this walk because its one that you will get the most understanding of by visiting. It is dog friendly for 90% of the route, the only part where the dogs were on lead was as we passed some machinery where they were sadly cutting the trees down for one reason or another. Other than that, they roamed completely free!
I highly recommend a visit to Thrunton Woods and you can find parking details below.
