Bolam Lake

Bolam Lake is a country park in Northumberland, around 15 minutes from Morpeth. It is a relatively short walk, it took us around 40 minutes to go round. There is a circular route which follows the lake all the way round, providing some fantastic views and picture opportunities. We found that it was best to keep the dogs on the lead at times as the path runs parallel to the road, however there was other chances to let the dogs run free.

There is plenty of wildlife at the park which you may be lucky to see, such as deer and red squirrels! Please respect the wildlife and keep the dogs on the lead when nearby.

Within the park, there is a cafe and visitor centre (closed when we went due to COVID), this only accepts cash payment if you are planning on visiting. The shop has hot and cold refreshements and some homemade cakes, as well as handmade local gifts.

After we had visited Bolam Lake, we took the short drive to Morpeth and had some fantastic food in the Black Bull Pub.

Parking Information

There are three car parks at the country park. The car parks are open during daylight hours and are locked at dusk. Each car park has disabled parking bays. The cafe and toilets are located in Boathouse Wood Car Park, to the north of the lake.
